EPI-centre.com Rights, Permissions & Usage policy

1. OUR GOAL

  1. We aim to bring you well researched information which enables you and others to share the benefits of our widely respected and staunchly independent opinions.
  2. Though not a "buyer's guide" we are aware that many purchasing decisions are made on the basis of our reports.
  3. We respect and value your products, software and other work and trust that you respect and value ours.
  4. We seek to accentaute the positive aspects of products and services, never to be negative.
  5. We sometimes advise manufacturers in the design of products and clear writing of brochures and other PR material but this must never be credited and does not imply endorsement by us. We are probably more critical of such products when writing about them.
  6. We do not do "advertorials".

2. GENERAL

  1. Payments from commercial organisations which benefit from our work are necessary to enable us to continue to provide and expand our service.
  2. We protect our property, rights and conditions vigorously.

3. ORIGINAL PURPOSE

  1. All articles are strictly independent reviews for first publication in the respective journals for which they were commissioned.
  2. Payment for such work is comparatively low and articles are not initially intended to be used as advertising or PR material, which command much higher fees.

4. PRINTED PUBLICATIONS

  1. We retain copyright of all material we produce and grant publishers a licence for first publication only.
  2. All other rights are reserved by us though these are negotiable, including reprints, offprints or authorised photocopies or authorised copies made by other means.

5. RUN-ONS, RE-PRINTING, RE-USE & RE-PURPOSING

  1. Charges for the use of our copyright material depend upon the required use and quantity and will reflect the considerable potential commercial value of product endorsement by recognised independent experts.
  2. Our charges are in addition to the cost of printing, copying and other rights (for example, for re-use of page design).
  3. Permission and fees for use must be negotiated and agreed separately with us before copying, printing or publication takes place.
  4. We will act to prevent distribution of unauthorised copies and seek damages for infringement.
  5. Copyright always remains with us unless specifically agreed and assigned in writing.
  6. All run-ons, re-prints or other re-purposing of our material must be clearly marked as being our copyright.

6. WEB PUBLISHING

  1. When we publish articles on the web they contain the statement, "This material may only be downloaded for personal non-commercial use." These are intended to be read on-line or printed as individual copies for reading off-line.
  2. Any other use must be negotiated and agreed in writing.
  3. Once an article is written and posted on the web we consider it completed. Updating to keep links, prices, etc, mentioned in old articles up to date can only be carried out at additional cost on a commercial basis. You must provide us with the updated information. We are not responsible for finding it.

7. LINKS FROM NON-COMMERCIAL SITES

  1. Links from non-commercial non-profit sites are free and are encouraged in the interest of increasing knowledge, general interest and awareness in the art and science of digital imaging, and the emerging technology, software and other issues for the collective benefit of the electronic and digital photography and imaging industry and the web community.

8. LINKS FROM COMMERCIAL WEBSITES

  1. There is no charge for links to our homepage at www.epi-centre.com or to the main section indices on our sites.
  2. We charge 300 UK pounds Sterling (US $500) per annum for links from commercial sites directly to a particular article or report on our website. This compensates us for the extra traffic to that particular page and pays us a small fee for the benefit to you.
  3. Once an article is written and posted on the web we consider it completed. Updating to keep links, prices, etc, mentioned in old articles up to date can only be carried out at additional cost on a commercial basis. You must provide us with the updated information. We are not responsible for finding it.
  4. We check the search engines regularly for links to our sites. If links remain in place but are not paid for we will, reluctantly, remove the article from the web. We do not exist to serve another party's business interests without payment.

9. LINKS TO COMMERCIAL WEBSITES

  1. We frequently link to manufacturers and other suppliers from within articles.
  2. This is done without charge as a convenience to our readers but we will always remove these links if the recipient requests us to do so.

10. RE-USE OF OUR MATERIAL ON YOUR WEBSITE

  1. We prefer to retain control of our material on our website.
  2. We charge a minimum of 3,000 UK pounds Sterling (US $5,000) for a licence to place a copy of one of our articles on a third party's commercial website for a period of up to one year.
  3. Not even one word or image may be changed without our specific agreement in writing. This is a most important condition which, if breached, will result in rights being withdrawn without refund of charges paid or due.
  4. Rights may be withdrawn at any time if we consider the useage is not fair or that our conditions have been breached.
  5. Copyright always remains with us unless specifically agreed and assigned in writing.

11. SUITABILITY

  1. Our views in articles, reports and opinions are expressed in good faith and to the best of our knowledge and ability are accurate.
  2. We do not offer any warranty and cannot be held liable for the consequences of any errors, however caused.
  3. You must decide whether the information we provide is suitable for your purposes.
